Review of RoboCop (1987) by Martin R — 18 Feb 2014
I am still trying to figure out why I never bothered to watch this as a child. Last night [1/10/14] I watched a classic from 1987 called "RoboCop"--I didn't love it as much as, say, "Aliens.
" But there's no doubt that "RoboCop" is a film that not only kicks ass, but adds some interesting social/political commentary as well. RoboCop is designed to uphold the law, etc but when the "big guy" (perhaps hinting at politicians) gets in trouble, he's "untouchable" hmmmm, very interesting.
There were other intriguing points that were being made but I'm not going to go into them. Overall: this is a terrific 80's film whose action doesn't feel bloated. Having seen this now, I wonder what my feelings will be for the soon-to-be released remake, may the odds be in its favor.
Anyways, RoboCop. Fuck yeah! [2/18/14] Update: I had originally given this movie a 4.5/5, however, because of my recent viewing of the 2014 "remake" and several more viewings of the original 1987 classic (on Blu-ray), I have award "Robocop" (1987) with a grade of 5/5.
"Robocop" is perfect. Its violence, gore, and awesome action sequences put modern "action" movies to shame. Plus, RoboCop actually LOOKS like a freakin' RoboCop (can't quite say the same about the "new" RoboCop although the filmmakers retained the mechanic sounds in that lower-quality [and that's me being nice] version).
