Review of RoboCop (1987) by John H — 20 Feb 2014
RoboCop is one of the smartest films in that it hides what its message is through its relentless violence. Alex Murphy is a Detroit based police officer who gets shot-gunned to death just at the start of the movie.
After Murphy dies on an operating table, he gets transformed into the titular RoboCop. Every scene he is in is filled with awesomeness; a man inside a robotic body out for revenge in the most satisfying ways. He develops from a monotone robot to a badass and fights back against his programming.
RoboCop is reminiscent of Judge Dredd and classic Japanese manga and anime. It all takes place within this gritty city that's rampant with corruption and crime everyday. No one is safe here. Detroit is worse than ever and it takes RoboCop to bring justice upon those who cause these crimes.
RoboCop is a strong 80s action classic with good plotting, good characterisation and memorable music, but not all the visual effects haven't aged well (especially one near the end of the movie).
RoboCop gets 4/5 golden medals for entertainment services.
