Review of Robinson Crusoe on Mars (1964) by Alex S — 07 Oct 2007
If you are asking yourself why you would want to see a movie about a guy who gets stranded on Mars with a monkey (who happens to be on the cover of the film, complete with specially designed monkey-astronaut suit), then this is clearly not the film for you.
Actually, I'm not sure who this is for. It's not in the B-movie camp where it is so bad it is good (mostly this movie is just slightly above average B-movie quality) nor is it ridiculously stupid (there are some glaring oddities like Friday's attire and the typical lack of needing a shave or a haircut for our star, but this movie is not really as dumb as it could be).
Some good ideas and some bad decisions (our alien slave drivers appear so long on screen that their intimidation is destroyed) make for a semi-decent two hours. I guess if you love old sci-fi films, you should check it out.
For me, the monkey in the astronaut suit stole the show.
