Review of Robin Williams: Live on Broadway (2002) by Catherine P — 09 Jun 2010
Robin Williams is an Oscar Winner (Good Will Hunting). He's been nominated four times. He's also an Emmy winner (1987's TV variety show Carol, Carl, Whoopi, and Robin), a six-time Golden Globe winner, and a two-time SAG award winner.
The man can act. However, long before he was the Robin Williams we all know and love today, he was a stand-up comic. One of his brightest and most hilarious stand-up acts came in 2002 with Robin Williams: Live on Broadway.
The man's ability to play to a crowd is unmatched. A lot of comedians play too much like they're going strictly from the script they just memorized before walking on stage. Granted it's still they're stuff they memorized.
..but it still seems...well...staged. Robin is crass, dirty, derogatory, and we all love it! His ability to flow from one bit to another is great! Every comedian fixes up some kind of bit about sports.
Robin's has to be one of the best! His golf bit is hilarious! Bottom Line: Hands down his act on Broadway is the funniest two hours of Robin Williams we've seen. But...uh...make sure the kids are down for this one.
He aint no Genie.
