Review of Robin Williams: Live on Broadway (2002) by Steve J — 05 Dec 2007
We've all got mixed feelings about Robin Williams. He can be hilarious. He can be a great actor. But his movie choices range from really damn good stuff and really damn funny stuff to pretentious, overdone crap and feel good fluff. On top of that, Williams hasn't done a full-out stand-up show (at least for the general public) in nearly 20 years. It would be easy to imagine Live On Broadway being a lot tamer than we're used to, and filled with the kind semi-philosophical (and only semi-funny) "old fart" stuff that a lot of comedians tend to start doing when they get older.
Lucky for us, it's not. Live On Broadway is every bit as funny, manic, and generally wonderful as Robin Williams Live or A Night At The Met. He's still got it, and he's not holding back to impress the producers of Jakob the Liar II. Plus he seems to be enjoying the hell out of himself, which just makes it that much more fun. So, if you just saw Bicentennial Man or something and need to remind yourself that Robin Williams is a good guy, go rent Live On Broadway.
Now, if we can just get Eddie Murphy back on stage...
