Review of Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993) by Mloy X — 13 May 2012
Robin Hood (Elwes): You are entering the territory of Robin Hood and his Merry Men.
Rabbi Tuckman (Brooks): Faygeles?
[clears their throats, trying to act macho].
Robin Hood (Elwes): No, no. We're straight. Just... merry.
I love Cary Elwes and this is a silly and fun movie that just refuses to take itself seriously. Always very enjoyable to watch. Plus, it's like an onion, it has so many layers. Having recently watched "The Godfather", I have a new appreciation for the scene with Dom DeLuise (Don Giovanni) and Steve Tancora (Filthy Luca). Now with a point of reference, that part was funnier. I was giggling like a lunatic. The entire cast was simply brilliant! Hats off especially to (of course) Cary Elwes but more to the (surprisingly) hilarious Roger Rees. Amy Yasbeck and Dave Chappelle were cool. Mel Brooks was great in small doses and (Sir) Patrick Stewart was just too awesome!!! Even the annoyingly unfunny Richard Lewis couldn't ruin this film for me.
