Review of Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993) by Renzo V — 23 Jun 2014
"ROBIN HOOD AND HIS LITTLE JOHN IN TIGHTS".
- 'Robin Hood: Men in Tights' is a 1993 parody film directed by Mel Brooks (Spaceballs, Young Frankenstein). Most of the film was inspired by the storyline of 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves'. Although some of the jokes now seem a bit lame, the whole parody-thing worked to make this film get a cult status. I really laughed with some scenes. The songs are merry and I adore the character of Broomhilda. With Cary Elwes (Saw, Bram Stoker's Dracula), Roger Rees (The Scorpion King, The Prestige) and Amy Yasbeck (Problem Child, The Mask). And small appearances from Patrick Stewart (X-men trilogy), Isaac Hayes (Shaft, South Park) and Mel Brooks himself. Struck by love, Robin's arrows never miss...
Robin of Loxley (Elwes) returns to England after being imprisoned in Jerusalem during the crusades of King Richard Lionheart (Stewart). Meeting Ahchoo, the son of a fellow prisoner Asneeze (Hayes), Robin returns to Loxley castle, only to discover that his whole family has died and that the building has been confiscated by the Sheriff of Rottingham (Rees), who works for King John. The only person from his past that is still there is the blind servant Blinkin. To help reclaim his land, Robin recruits Little Jon, Will Scarlett and Rabbi Tuckman (Brooks) to his party of merry men and goes to the King's castle. There Robin meets the lovely maid Marion (Yasbeck)...
