Review of Robin Hood (2010) by Theo M — 20 Aug 2011
Since the story of Robin Hood has been a work of fiction from the beginning, no one can blame the director for offering us an alternative version. Quite a good story if you are willing to let go of the old one.
The camera work is excellent, the casting is well done, and an effort has been made to recreate an early 13th century atmosphere. There are a few flaws, of course: maid Marion is much too emancipated, for one thing.
The scene with the owl was silly as well: an owl was not considered to be wise in the middle ages, but on the contrary a devilish creature of the night. The cremation of sir Walter can even be called stupid: all Christians bury their dead.
Still, it was a delight to watch this movie: the best version of the Robin Hood theme on film, as far as I'm concerned.
