Review of Robin Hood (2010) by Marie S — 22 Aug 2011
Robin Hood has no pace to it, no heartbeat, no stride. It may be epic and both sound and look magnificent, but the entire thing also feels like it belongs in the first 10 mins of another movie -- one with actual heft to its plot. Ridely Scott's direction drags, Russel Crowe's acting is lazy, and because of these two and the dull writer that leads them, the film turns out a bore.
2010's Robin Hood is not worth a try even if you're the most hardened of fanatics. Go read a book instead, like Jack Whyte's "The Forest Laird" if you want to see something new and interesting about this historical fiction. Ridley Scott's version was probably made because of the investment and the names behind it, certainly not because it deserved to exist. It does not.
