Review of Robin Hood (2010) by Richard D — 14 Jul 2015
Disappointing version of the Robin Hood tale, particularly considering both the ambition & talent behind the project. Giving a realistic take on Robin Hood that ties his tale into King John signing the Magna Carter is an interesting one but poorly executed.
The film needlessly complicates the plot by having Robin not be Robert Loxley but someone masquerading as his him while there just isn't as much fun throughout. Ridley Scott does deliver a first-rate production, with compelling battle scenes & accurate depictions of medieval life.
Thankfully, the cast is solid across the board, with Russell Crowe making a fine Robin Hood while Cate Blanchett gives an different take on Marion as a older woman forced to fend for herself due to the situation of her times.
Not necessarily a bad film but just a bad misfire.
