Review of Robin Hood (2010) by Stephen Z — 09 Jun 2015
Yeah, yeah, we all know the story of Robin Hood. This is the dark, grounded, and gritty take on the tale; a trend that is becoming the norm in Hollywood. And so, we get the origin story of Robin Hood in his self-titled film. And I've got to say, this is one of the most boring origin stories I have ever seen.
Ridley Scott attempts to do with "Robin Hood" what he did with "Gladiator" 10 years ago, and though the drama is well-done, the action is uninteresting and the excitement is minimal. I kept waiting and waiting for the film to pick up and get interesting, but it never did. On the other hand, "Robin Hood" boasts an excellent cast. Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, Mark Strong, Oscar Isaac, Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, and William Hurt all give great performances, but great performances aren't enough to brighten and liven this film.
"Robin Hood" is a nice drama with some passable action, but it is not all that compelling of a film.
