For all its flaws, this is rousing, thrilling, A-list entertainment that still delivers. Handled with humour, charm and a sense of fun, its one to put the cynic aside for a couple of hours and just enjoy the ride.
Oh, and there's Mr Rickman's Sherrif of Nottingham to relish as well.
