Review of Robin Hood (2009) by Ben D — 06 May 2012
When I was 11 this was my favourite film. I watched it and watched it again, and again. I've heard it said you should never go back: this is proof of that. Watching it 21 years on it reveals itself a very poor film indeed - inconsisent, badly scripted, Kevin Costner has charm but doesn't convince, Azeem spouts nothing more than platitudes, and Alan Rickman is pure pantomime dame but no real menace.
The action sequences are adequetly handled but never really come alive in the way they did when I was 11. A disappointment. 11 years old me would have given this five stars. Adult me can't rise above 2.
