Review of Robin and Marian (1976) by Jonathan H — 19 Jun 2008
Over the years, I've seen a number of Robin Hood films. However this is certainly the first one with and unhappy ending. It's rather depressing, probably because it takes place many years after the original story.
King Richard, who is always portrayed as a divine, heroic, loving king comes off in this film as as a cruel, gready king. The fact that Robin and Marian die by poison is crazy! They are such beloved characters; not having them live happily ever after just seems wrong.
Audrey Hepburn was lovely in her first film in 9 years. I've always said the greatest Maid Marian was Olivia de Havilland, but Hepburn gives her good compitition.
