Review of Road Trip (2000) by Nate A — 15 Jul 2008
For almost any guy, Amy Smart being in this movie would be a good enough reason to check out this movie. For the rest of you who are female, you'll probably need another motive. Well, have I got one for you.
This movie is "The greatest college tradition of all." Sure, I pulled this quote right off the DVD cover, but it pretty says it all for this classic comedy. It plot pioneered the fraternity road trip comedy for other movies to ruin for future generations *cough* Are We There Yet*cough*cough* Eurotrip*etc.
But, rest assured, this movie is the top dog in the sub-genre. The plot may seem cliched for those seeing it for the first time, but when it came out in 2000, it was one of the first to do it justice.
Oh, the laughs to be had with this film... The cast is at the top of their game in this movie as well. As mentioned before, Amy Smart is drop-dead sexy in the beginning scenes of Road Trip and even with this performance being one of her first, it remains her most memorable (for more reasons than one.
) Tom Green's often disturbing behavior and Seann William Scott's normalcy also translate well in Road Trips's more comedic moments. Something that actually surprised me was that this film actually carried a fairly deep message about long-distance relationships and growing some balls.
All in all, Road Trip is a fun and laugh-out-loud hilarious experience much in the same way the good American Pie films excel in enteeraining their audiences.
