Review of Road Trip (2000) by Jon W — 23 Jul 2008
I don't like it. And not because it's not funny enough. Road Trip was plenty funny. Sure, it's the stupid, crudish kind of funny but you know, that's not such a bad thing every so often.
It's not the humor that offends me, it's the craptacular ending/horrific basic premise. I may be guilty of criticizing a comedy for its non-comedic elements but generally, it's a pretty terrible idea to use a dichotomous backdrop in a comedy (such as having 2 technically eligible partners for the main character) when you know it's not going to be something you can flush out in the framework of the plot.
Basically what I'm saying is, you're filming a pretty standard teen comedy; keep it simple and don't make the guy (and the audience in turn) choose between 2 girls when neither is psychotic.
