Review of Road to Perdition (2002) by Matthew C — 23 Aug 2013

Spectacular performances, subtle symbolism, and of course breathtaking cinematography make this 2002 Mendes film one to remember. It harkens back to an older and somewhat simpler day in movies. The music is eerie but on the edge of uplifting.

The scenery where some of these grizzly scenes take place adds to the quiet punch that this movie packs. It hits like a train sometimes and other times it's a slow burn. A father son tale of loyalty, justice, and revenge.

Tom Hanks is solid as the central character and the story is very defining for men and timeless for generations. Well worth the watch and despite the violence, the film is very respectful of what it is portraying and has an elegant way of artistically showing what's important and leaving the rest to our imagination.
