Review of Road Hard (2015) by Mary M — 07 Mar 2015
I'm a huge Carolla fan, which kind of went against me. I'd heard almost all the jokes before, so it wasn't that LOL. It was heartwarming but didn't engage me deeply. I don't think Adam needs to be a great actor; he did well enough.
And his character is sweet, which will be news to those who think he's just a blowhard. He *wrote* the character, so it obviously reflects who he is. Diane Farr is always great, but the plot where they get together and he moves 3000 miles (conveniently close to where his daughter wants to go to school) is flimsy at best.
I like that his daughter is played by an Asian girl, with no explanation of why that is. Illeana Douglas was wasted, but I loved Larry Miller. He's the only other character who had enough screen time to really get a sense of him.
In general, filling the movie with other comedians did not a Night of Hilarious Comedy make. I'm disappointed, I suppose, but only mildly. I contributed to the making of the movie, but since I bought it on iTunes and chose the SD version, I couldn't tell if my name is in the credits.
I think I might prefer The Hammer. I'm going to watch both again and see.
