Road Games is bound to be compared to Richard Franklin's Hitchcockian Horror/Thriller from the early 1980s, Roadgames but it actually has more in common with Robert Fuest's early 1970s Horror/Thriller And Soon The Darkness.

Like in that film, a killer is stalking the rural back-roads of the picturesque French countryside. Andrew Simpson plays a British hitchhiker trying to make it back home to England via Calais. He meets up with the stunningly gorgeous Josephine De La Baume who is also hitching her way through France but is in no particular hurry to get anywhere.

They are picked up by a seemingly friendly good Samaritan, played by Frederic Pierrot who invites them back to his chalet were his American wife (Cult Horror movie actress Barbara Crampton) is waiting.

Lots of suspicious goings on here with plenty of Red Herrings, and it is well acted but I admit that I had figured out the "twist" ending well in advance. Director Abner Pastoll is well versed in the tricks needed to maintain suspense and just as in And Soon The Darkness the rural French countryside is beautifully photographed but remains a very scary and isolated locale.
