Review of River's Edge (1986) by Hugh J — 02 Jul 2008
I can't say I enjoyed this film. The acting is decent enough and the story's ok but I just couldn't get into it. I didn't like any of the characters and the dark humour seemed a little forced.
Crispin Glover is just insane which is both a good and bad thing. Everyone else was good in their roles but somewhere between the apathy of Keanu Reeves and the lunacy of Dennis Hopper, I just couldn't find a single person to root for.
In fact, I didn't care about any of the characters. Hell, I downright hated Joshua John Miller who I couldn't even tell whether or not was a boy or a girl until Neo gave him an ass whupping. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't show a little girl getting punched in the face by their older brother so that pretty much confirmed that he was a dude.
Albeit he looks like a fucking dyke throughout the whole film. This kind of movie just isn't my bag.
