Review of River's Edge (1986) by Mich E — 31 Aug 2008
A definite staple in the 80's teen collection. Especially because this movie offers one thing that most films in the 80's don't - a relentless downward spiral! The movie just gets darker as it goes, and never really gives you any leeway! This was, I believe, Keanu Reeves first starring role, and he is awesome in it.
Also, one of my favorite dudes, Crispin Glover gets way more screen time than he normally does and listening to him spurt out his lines is enough entertainment for me on it's own. Dennis Hopper is also amazing, as always! He's so good at playing psychopaths! One of the best! I can't recommend this enough.
I'm surprised it doesn't get mentioned more nowadays. It's kind of one of those unspoken movies you just kind of have to find out about. It deserves more than it receives. It's kind of like the funnier, classier, more mainstream accessible version of Larry Clark's "Bully" (2001).
See it!
