Review of River's Edge (1986) by Jon L — 06 Oct 2011
"She was right there, man! I poked her with a stick!" You can't beat Crispin Glover, and this is arguably his best role as one of two apathetic stoners (along with Keanu Reeves in his first movie role) who find themselves in the midst of a heinous murder coverup plot.
The young characters in this movie simply do not care; that is the message. The social commentary in this film is secondary to its amazing cult factor. Simply put, there are a lot of great scenes and lines in "River's Edge," which is only necessary considering just how dark and depressing the subject matter is.
In many ways the dark side of the John Hughes teen films that were huge at this time, this movie is a bona fide classic.
