Review of Rituals (1977) by Camden N — 29 Jan 2009
Good solid Canadian takeoff on Deliverence. You know, without the butt raping and the pig squealing-like.
Actually, more than just a ripoff, it's a good movie on its own and really only shares the premise of "Bunch of guys go camping and shit happens"with Deliverence.
The copy I downloaded (a murky, muddy vhs rip in which the night scenes are almost indecipherable...so much so that I didn't get the apparently crazy twist/reveal at the climax) has the title "The Creeper". That title makes no sense...although, now that I think about it, the title Rituals doesn't really mean anything either. Oh well.
Man, I love me some 70s Canadian tax shelter horror!
Shot, apparently, just about 15 minutes from my home town.
Can we get a cleaned up, widescreen DVD of this? It took a while, but Silent Partner came out on DVD, so howzabout this?
