Review of Risky Business (1983) by Adam G — 22 Sep 2008
This is a very unusual picture. It's a teen movie made for adults. It's a complex, rich, and smart story. The writing is consistently excellent and the direction certainly has a style that fits the story quite well.
The casting is right on as each character fits. It's a highly entertaining and unique picture that doesn't seem to age even though it is mired in a certain period. It definitely made Cruise. The music goes a long way towards creating the mood.
The film has much more to say than most concerning the nature of society and has some definite sociological overtones. The theatrical ending is a bit forced, but as originally intended it's definitely far darker and more cynical than most teen comedies, which would have to be this films subgenre.
