Review of Risky Business (1983) by Andrew C — 25 Nov 2008
This is sincerely one of the greatest films ever made. In every way this movie outshines teen comedies. This is high art in disguise. Its beautiful, its funny, its moving, its deep, its well performed.
I initially saw this in high school and thought it was pretty cool. Memorable and fun, nothing more. But after seeing it again 6 years later, it was even better. The theme of capitalism and the corruption found there is just as important in the 2000s as it was in the 80s. The story elements involving fear and freedom are completely relatable. Specific scenes have been elevated to iconic status. A great, great film. And shockingly underrated for how important it has been to every teen movie to follow.
