Review of Risky Business (1983) by Bob S — 27 Feb 2009
Never to be confused with fine filmmaking, this movie is a must see for its place in pop culture and movie history. We are witnessing more than the launch of the Tom Cruise Empire. The tighty-whitey dance to Seger and the classic Ray-Bans are etched in memory.
The movie comes across nostalgic as its filmed just before the 80's excess of drugs and sex, in a world with no bank machines, no cell phones and not a whisper of HIV. Cruise's entrepreneurial high schooler appeals to the masses by coming across like a fashionable Benjamin Braddock.
De Mornay is no Mrs. Robinson, but she plays the fine line between danger and innocence so well you feel you can trust her.
