Review of Risky Business (1983) by Jonathan A — 10 Jul 2009
Tom Cruise is a straight-edge high school senior who turns into a prostitution entrepreneur when he becomes short on cash. Incredibly 80s, right down to the production values, and also adequately acted by the cast.
However, I feel like "Risky Business" hasn't necessarily aged well; the humor and setup has actually been outdone in many other movies that have improved upon the premise. That, and I found the sequence of events in the plot to have an unrealistic execution as far as plausibility goes.
Since this was probably the first of it's kind as far as sex comedies go, that and being Cruise's breakout role, it's no wonder it has a fan following. But the film is by no means a bad movie, there's just no surprises as far as the story goes.
