Review of Risky Business (1983) by Mike S — 08 Aug 2009
It was interesting to see that even in an early role Tom Cruise has the intensity and charisma evident in so many of his characters. But overall, this seemed like a fairly average teen comedy. The pacing was a bit slow (by today's standards, at any rate).
I found Cruise's character of Joel to be uneven... at times he was a quiet, awkward teenager, and at other times he was a suave, hustling brothel manager. Perhaps this was supposed to be a "coming out of his shell" transformation, but it seemed to go back and forth several times.
