Review of Risky Business (1983) by Mike L — 05 Sep 2009
A movie that should be cursed for no other reason than unleashing the plague that is Tom Cruise upon the world.
A standard teen movie where the male lead must perform some "rite of passage" before he goes off to college. The big difference in this one is the performance of Rebecca De Mornay who brings a high level of professionalism to the role along with some class despite being a prostitute.
There are not many laughs to be found in this one, if any at all, so the biggest problem is what is this movie trying to be. It fails as a teen comedy as there are no laughs, it fails as a drama as the setup is unrealistic so it straddles the middle and you are left in the gray zone of ambiguity.
Other than De Mornay there is not much to recommend unless you are a Cruise fan.
