Review of Risky Business (1983) by Shane D — 22 Aug 2010
After all these years of the â??famous sceneâ?? from this movie almost single handedly preventing me from actually sitting down and watching this movie, weirdly enough, it was the Tangerine Dream score that allured me towards giving this Cruise-classic another chance.
Iâ??d long enjoyed the 80s atmospheric score to this film and wondered how it must have reconciled with what I thought was essentially a sequel to Bachelor Party. Hence, I was pretty well surprised at how nuanced and interesting the film ended up being.
It never felt like it strayed too far down the â??College tit-festâ?? side of things and instead maintained a real level of cool and genuine raunch. Plus there is no mistaking why Cruise stood out and forged a career from this point onwards and throughout the following 25 years.
Look, its no masterpiece, but it has a certain penache that I wasnâ??t expecting it would have.
