Review of Risky Business (1983) by Jon C — 03 Aug 2013
This is a stupendously made 80's-teen flick.
Tom Cruise totally commands the screen as Joel, a future enterpriser taking on a 'risky business' while on a parents-free weekend.
It's the end of innocence as a teenager and the start of a dark, dangerous journey.
His friends tell him it's ok to take freedom and opportunity; the 'time of your life' and he gets into much deeper trouble when he comes across a gorgeous call-girl and her boss is out to get her.
The film is also an ingenious biting satire/social commentary of money, capitalism, economics and profits.
Anyone can make some money with something they can sell and it get very competitive.
'Risky Business' made it for me because it takes one simple teen story way more fun, crazy, realistic and certainly funny.
Tom Cruise is at his finest here.
