Review of Risky Business (1983) by Jamie H — 06 May 2014
Tom Cruise's turn as the high school senior who pounces at his first chance of freedom from his parents is very likeable. The film itself does a great job of bringing important and often controversial issue to the surface without pushing it down the audiences throat. At times the realism of this black comedy slips, but this does no denigrate the film far enough to carry any real significance.
Rebecca De Mornay works well in her role as a call girl, however without the rapport that her and 'Joel' (Tom Cruise's character) whip up, her performance may have faltered. All in all, a great 80s film that demonstrates clearly that Tom Cruise was headed for stardom.
