Review of Risky Business (1983) by Izaak M — 12 Sep 2008
The movie that made Tom Cruise a household name. The idea in principal is a dynamic and interesting one. The cinematography in this film perfectly captures the spirit and aura of the period and the soundtrack also helps the vibe.
Cruise puts in a decent enough performance but he can't quite match up to the awesomeness of Joe Pantoliano, who just doesn't get enough screen time in this film. The execution of of the idea is rather lacklustre, and looking back you feel it could've delivered so much more.
There were many stalling moments in the movie which felt long and drawn out, thus my low rating. Cruise has done far, far worse in his career though, and if nothing else it's worth a look to see how far he's come over the years.
If you love TC, then by all means buy it. Otherwise, spend your dollar elsewhere.
