I went to see Risen this evening and while it was good it was not nearly as good as I was hoping it would be. On the plus side, Joseph Fiennes' performance was worth the cost of the ticket. Also, I liked the use of Jesus' proper name, Yeshua, and that he looked like the middle eastern Jewish man that he is.
On the down side, the movie continued the myth that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute and most of the apostles came off as hippies or, in Bartholomew's case, a surfer dude. Yet, even with those problems, it was still a pleasant way to spend an evening.
