Review of Risen (2016) by Dave R — 23 Feb 2016
Risen is a new way to tell the story of Jesus Christ and it is an interesting way to do so. There's no biblical account of a Roman soldier put in charge of finding the body of Christ after he was crucified, but that is what this is.
What the movie does is give you and idea of what happened to those who either asked to have Jesus put to death or to those who did the killing of Jesus. This is well done, well acted and well shot, and is a step above many faith based movies.
Joseph Fiennes is in his second faith based movie (Luther was the first on Martin Luther). He plays the Roman with the right tone I think. I was waiting for something more in this movie, I'm not sure what though maybe more awe? There is a great goose bump moment when Jesus is discovered alive that will stay with me.
