Risen presents the well know Biblical story in a unique "investigative" manner, with much of the focus placed on an authority figure's attempt to find answers about the disappearance of Jesus' body from the tomb.

Unlike many other movies that take this approach, audiences are already aware of the "reveal", so the usual suspense that accompanies is lacking. Still, Risen tells the story uniquely enough to keep viewers entertained and is less heavy than other faith-based dramas.
