Review of Risen (2016) by Mark F — 20 Feb 2016
After recent Bible based movies like Noah, where creative licence led the whole thing into a mess, I was looking forward to seeing something from Hollywood that stuck more faithfully to the original text.
This does that, and from a unique angle, but I still sat there feeling like they were missing something. The acting is solid, the idea of telling the resurrection story through the eyes of a Roman guard is great, but perhaps it's that the disciples (except for Bartholomew) didn't feel fully human.
It didn't fully convey the wonder of the resurrection and the excitement there must have been either. I guess I was looking for more awe. It was still good though. Worth a watch.
