"Risen" is the story of Jesus Christ's resurrection and Ascension into Heaven as told through the eyes of a Roman tribune serving under Pontius Pilate. He goes from being an agent of an oppressive regime to a believer.

Though I applaud this film for being an authentic period piece, it has several shortcomings. The story and characters are underdeveloped, and the film does not effectively flesh out the Messiah concept without painting Jesus as a thin caricature to serve cliched plot devices.

This hampers the character development, and the pedestrian acting doesn't help the film either. It seems like none of the characters really want to immerse themselves in their roles, which takes believability away from the script ------------------------------------------ C+.
