Review of Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) by Scotty C — 13 Oct 2014
This is a fairly decent film to start off the new reboot series. The humans are, coincidentally, the weakest elements in the film - they feel like typical flat Hollywood characters for the most part. The CGI isn't initially that impressive, but somehow it gradually feels more convincing as you get into the film.
The performance capture actor for the lead ape, Caesar, did a stellar job and made what could have been an otherwise mediocre film into something that felt a little magical - some scenes with Caesar were emotionally touching, which I did not expect I'd get from a digital primate.
