Review of Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) by Bheema D — 08 Jul 2014
The best movie of 2011 and the best examination yet of what it would mean for humanity to create Technological Children, in the form of uplifted apes. There are a couple really lame callbacks to dialogue from the original Planet of the Apes movie, but there are mostly powerful moments, including the crowd-pleasing surprise that follows the "damn dirty ape" misfire. The human performances are fine, but by the end, it is Caesar and the other apes who are the heart and soul of the movie.
And soon after the ending credits begin rolling, the movie's most terrifying moment arrives, in a chilling coda that makes sense in the Planet of the Apes universe and sets up one of the most surprisingly successful reboots in cinema history.
