Review of Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) by Kallie S — 13 Jul 2014

This Planet of the Apes reboot is just what audiences needed to restore their faith in the franchise. The effects are great, and the motion capture work by Andy Serkis is perfect. I liked seeing the ape's world come to be, this is a full blown origin story, which provides the film with its greatest strengths and weaknesses.

The origin is a bit drawn out, and could have been much shorter, to hold your attention more. Luckily, the story is interesting, though a bit predictable. The acting is good and the climax is very enjoyable.

This movie will instill hope in fans of the franchise using references from the old ones as fan service, while also being different and exciting enough to appeal to non fans. Rise of the Planet of the Apes gets 4/5 stars (B+).
