Review of Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) by David N — 16 Jul 2014
Easily one of the best remakes/prequels ever made, and with the volume of those that are currently under production, that is saying something.
The film brings a lot of heart to the pre-apocalyptic science fiction narrative that sets up moral dichotomies in both humans and other types of apes (humans are apes too, and the differentiation could be read as a metaphor).
The movie is balanced and naturalistic in its development, it makes it feel as if everything in the film could happen tomorrow. The script and the FX are very well groomed, and the acting ranges from solid to epic.
It is, indeed, a golden age for The Planet of the Apes!
