The main question: "Did we need a prequel to the Planet of the Apes franchise?".

The answer is very simply "no". But was the prequel worth it? The answer definitely is "yes". This was an incredibly entertaining film that never transcended into a generic blockbuster crapfest. The film was a surprise, since it just seemed so unnecessary to have a new entry into an otherwise tired franchise.

What really stands out here is the voice acting of Ceasar. Even though he barely says anything, the voice acting makes him seem incredibly plausible. His personality is well developed, and when we see him grow up, it does not transcend into the generic E.T.-esque story arc.

My only beef with the film is when the apes are fighting the police force. The Film clearly wants us to like the apes and hate the police, but after seeing what ceasar does, it was hard for me to root for him. I did not want him to die, but neither did I want to see the Police die. While Ceasar's grudge is understandable, it still seems a little weird that we are supposed to cheer for a pack of crazy monkeys fighting police-men trying to defend innocent citizens.

Still, it is an incredibly entertaining film nonetheless, and definitely deserves to be recognized more than it already is.
