Review of Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) by Adam S — 06 Jan 2014
Primarily due to the performance by Andy Serkis as Caesar, a performance that is one of the greatest I'm seen and was greatly robbed of glory due to being a motion capture effort, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" is a very engaging, very exciting film - everything that a big budget blockbuster should be.
With Serkis joined by the likes of James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox and Tom Felton, this able cast is used admirably by rising filmmaker Rupert Wyatt to create the ultimate uprising film, and breathes life into the Apes franchise, which had spent the better part of 40 years becoming some form of self-parody.
The Battle of the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the greatest visual scenes put to film, and Apes is an epic journey. One that everyone should see.
