The good hugely outweighs the bad in "Rise". Although Franco gives a lackluster performance throughout most of the movie, the focus is, rightly, on the apes, and boy oh boy do they shine. Instead of posh accented humans in makeup, the monkeys really come to life with the CGI.
Serkis is excellent as always as Caesar. The story, though about a chimp, draws you in, and Caesar proves to have far more humanity and personality than the humans.
