Review of Rise of the Guardians (2012) by Rasmus M — 02 Jan 2016
After Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and How To Train Your Dragon, we've seen that DreamWorks is able to create such great stories, comparable even for the most loved Disney classics. That's why this lazily scripted film that takes the easy way in so many places with the plot, is a huge disappointment. Had the incredients, but not the recipe.
Beautiful animation, likable characters and few(and seriously just few) good jokes are the best parts of this movie, and make it worth watching at least once. But with thin plot design, cliche and weakly performed "good vs. bad"-subject, continuous easy problem solutions and a riciculous attempt to make the film sound deep with slow, nonsense monologs by making the characters speak with low voice, this movie is incapable to withstand any actual deep muster.
Also the badly designed fighting scenes, where the main villain's dark creatures simply rush straight against fists of the heroes, only to get destroyed with one strike without delivering a single hit in, deliver huge minus points for this "Avengers for children"-scribble.
Briefly, this movie suffers from little similar problems as specific Disney's live- action film of the same year: John Carter.
