Review of Rise: Blood Hunter (2007) by Tomas E — 25 Oct 2007
The vampire movie is difficult to get right, because you basically have two choices - delve deep into vampire lore and legend (a la Underworld, Interview with a Vampire), or make it an all-out horror flick.
This attempt does neither, and it will suffer for that choice. It's more of a crime/revenge thriller, with the addition of vampires, and without the suspense. Most of the plot is predictable, and there are a lot of conveniences that keep this from being believable, even as a vampire movie. Lucy Liu is incredibly sexy in this movie, but that alone won't save it from dragging on.
I applaud the effort, but not the result.
