Review of Rise & Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story (2011) by Brad B — 31 Dec 2011
First off let me say that this is one of the most inspirational stories I have seen or heard in a long time.
Back in February I broke both my tibia and my fibula playing soccer for an adult league and it had effectively ended my playing career. Coaching my oldest daughter's 5-6 year old team was my way of getting back into the game, but it wasn't enough. I had come to the conclusion that the days of competitive soccer were over and done with. I received the movie as a Christmas present and watched it that night. Today is December 31st and I have seen the movie a total of 5 times. This story has inspired me to follow my dream of competitive soccer in the coaching ranks and I am now taking the steps necessary to get back into the game. This time from the sidelines instead of the pitch. "Rise and Shine: The Jay Demerit Story" is the reason for me taking that leap.
It gets better after every viewing and I find myself wanting to watch it. The music is brilliantly done. The narration is perfect. The interviews are great. The story is phenomenal.
This is not a soccer movie, but an inspirational documentary with a soccer backdrop. You do not have to be a soccer player or fan to appreciate the desire and determination. It is as good the fifth time as it is the first time and it is inspiring from ages 10 to 110. Job well done.
