Review of Ripley's Game (2002) by Mario G — 18 Jan 2010
Has some good suspense, but I found the film overly cruel, a little boring (the slow pace, really) and brutal. I didn't really buy the story much, and I didn't like how it was crime-ish. And that's cos I'm not into that genre. This film definitely isn't really a fun/exiting thriller, but rather a mature and serious one. The sex scenes were uncalled for. They were not necessary, seriously.
Dougray's character wasn't a likable character. He was greedy. Why would he kill for money? Also, Ray Winstone's character was annoying. He shouldn't have been in the film, really.
John Malkovich was brilliant in this. And it's because of him I rate this film high. Also because of Tom Ripley. He's an interesting character.
