Review of R.I.P.D. (2013) by Tommyjames B — 27 Jul 2014
What do you get when you combine elements of The men in black, Green lantern, and True Grit? Well you get a big steaming pile of garbage called R.I.P.D. I had the pleasure of watching this film a few weeks ago. By pleasure I mean getting my genitals shocked like an Afghan terrorist who is up for questioning in Guantanamo Bay. I guess I should try to give you some sort of review so this is my attempt at doing so.
Well the director of this film Robert Schwentke who brought such classics as Red, The Time Travelers wife, and Flightplan decided he could make a quick buck by combing Three films into one. This fails on a scale of monumental proportions and for a number of good reasons. First reason is he rips off Men in Black to no end. Continuing on, he also manages to somehow use the same C.G.I. as Green lantern and Jeff Bridges reprises his role as Rooster Cogburn in a different movie.
Moving on the film feels lazy which also goes back to the combined movie elements. But sloppy writing is one of the biggest flaws. It seemed as if this film was written on someones bathroom break and made it to the hands of the director. It's sad when Kevin Bacon is the best thing going for this film. Now I do admit that I felt the opening scenes of this film and some other shots were done well but nothing can pull this film out of it's pit. I can't seem to find anything about this film that really could give it a high rating in fact the score was also terrible. This whole film was a migraine that I wish I could have passed on. So save your time and your money and skip this sloppy, lazy, and inane film.
FINAL RATING 3/10.
